We Are Stronger’: Atheists To Hold Massive Rally On National Mall Next Month
‘We Are Stronger’: Atheists To Hold Massive Rally On National Mall Next Month
By Candice Leigh Helfand

WASHINGTON, D.C. (CBSDC) – Thousands of atheists are expected to attend the Reason Rally next month in Washington, D.C., an event that organizers hope will unify a large part of the secular community.
On March 24, the National Mall will be populated by those who sympathize with atheist perspectives, generally defined by an absence in belief of deities or other religious icons.
The website for the event states that organizers aim to encourage participants to claim their identity as what they call “secular Americans,” to dispel stereotypes, and to rally for legislative equality.

cool. hopefully they get a big turnout and get mainstream media coverage.
Kind of obnoxious that the media still conflates "atheism" and "secularism." But, they're just a bunch of idiots trying to appease the even more idiotic masses, so... yeah.
There is a stretch of I5 in Sacramento, on the way to the airport for everyone that is mainetained by "Atheists and Other Free thinkers" Makes me smile everytime I see it.
I believe in not believing in nothing!
Also, wish I was going, but I'll be in Tahoe skiing instead. It's my only week off until May, so I hope they'll survive w/o me.
I can't wait for judgement day. Gonna be a pretty sweet melt.

Yeah, this is why it's annoying that the media is making it an "atheist" event. It's really about secularism in general, and turning our nation off the path it's been on since Reagan made ignorant superstition into a mainstream political platform.

Gotta love the atheist propaganda, insinuating that reason and religion are mutually exclusive

i'm not even gonna bother with this one anymore. I've explained it at least twenty times on PT. I'm sure you were in at least one of those threads.
I'm pretty involved in the Secular Student Alliance at Clemson and I think we're bringing a group up. should be fun.

What this is actually about:
"Why are we doing this?
Across America, in every city, every town, and every school, secularism is on the rise. Whether people call themselves atheists, agnostics, secular Humanists, or any of the other terms used to describe their god-free lifestyle, secularism is coming out of the closet. According to the 2008 American Religious Identification Survey (PDF), the percentage of people with no religious affiliation grew in all fifty states.
The purpose of this particular rally will be to advance secularism (in the broadest sense of the word) in society.
Are we just going to use this opportunity to trash religion?
No. This will be a positive experience, focusing on all non-theists have achieved in the past several years (and beyond) and motivating those in attendance to become more active. While speakers have the right to say what they wish, the event is indeed a celebration of secular values.
What do you hope to achieve from this Rally?
We have three main goals:
To encourage attendees (and those who can’t make it) to come out of the closet as secular Americans, or supporters of secular equality.
To dispel stereotypes – there is no one “True Atheist”. We will have non-theists from all political persuasions, ethnicities, genders, and backgrounds. We will show that there are secular Americans in every American demographic.
Legislative equality. Secular Americans can run for office and adequately represent theists, just as theists in office can represent their secular constituents proudly and openly. We deserve a seat at the table just like theists, and we hope this rally can put our values in the radar of American voters."

Religions are not based on reason, they're based on faith. However, a person being religious does not mean they don't apply reason to other areas of their life.
