yeah i had Gus on the fringe (yes the pun is intended)
I dont think he gets the full treatment like Jesse and Walt. Id say he gets the same kind of development as like Hank and Skylar... in the long run there are only two important characters on the show and those two and all the side characters are unbelievably unlikable. Ive never watched a show that every single character was unlikable. I guess that is kind of a feat in itself.
the small scope of characters and the total unlikability of everyone is ultimately what turns me off of holding it up with the best of the best.

i think we're on the same page and not on it all at the same time. I'll agree, jesse and walt are the only two that get developed throughout the whole series. But, imo, multiple characters get a small arc throughout the show. gus. jesse's friends who deal drugs. jesse's girlfriend who walter lets die. etc. bb isn't really about giving characters the long development. it's not really possible with the overall theme of the show.

You are not necessarily supposed to like the characters. You feel for Walt when you find out he has cancer and what he does to try and leave money for his family, but over the course of the series he does worse and worse things that you wouldn't have thought him capable of.
well I understand that maybe the writers tried to make every character unlikable and they succeeded in doing that, so hooray for them! what i am saying is it doesnt make it quite an enjoyable viewing experience as other shows.

For you
I like the characters and a lot of other people do as well.
Yeah people hate skylar, but she is some shit Walt has to deal with and that is enjoyable for some.
It's ok it's not in your best of the best, others might disagree

It's not really about whether or not a character is likable. It's more about whether they're sympathetic, and human.
Saul is also one of my favorite TV characters ever. Some of those conversations with Walt in his office were so fucking classic.

what is "it"?
i was just talking about my preferences. i think its much more impressive to create an anti-hero like Tony Soprano or Don Draper or Omar rather than just an unlikable main character.

you really didnt' think walt was likable at the beginning mcfly?
nah not really. i mean you can be sympathetic. like... oh man... poor guy has cancer, what a bum deal.
but he was always kind of a peckerhead and just got worse and worse.

i just started re-watching the series with my girl in the last week, and i couldn't agree more. Walt was a complete shit head from the beginning. minus the cancer, there is literally not one empathetic quality to his character.

wow, im a big bb fluffer, but i respect your opinion.
yeah i mean people will be like 'but you arent supposed to like him!!" which is something i understand and realize. if that was the intention... they were successful and are awarded 10 mcfly points for achieving their objective... but that doesnt make it any more enjoyable for me.
I really love the contrast of watching someone like tony cheat and kill... and just be an all around terrible person... that you for some reason find likable and are rooting for. I just find that kind of thing much more interesting and impressive from a creative standpoint.

so, let me get this straight. one person might have a certain opinion. and, literally, the person next to him might have another? do i have that right?

I AM GOING OUT OF MY MIND!!!!
i find walt very likable.
i am a hs math teacher though, so i probs relate to him more than other viewers.
i do see how they really played up the empathy angle though: cancer, disabled kid, bitchy wife, financial woes, another kid on the way.............
but walt is suposed to be a victim of circumstance. his decision to break bad seems realistic based on the cards he was dealt.
i love it.

you should hate skylar, but she is important to the story.

They mentioned on a commercial during Hell on Wheels that the season of Walking Dead would finish this winter, another season of the Killing this spring. Mad Men late spring/early summer. Breaking Bad sometime this summer. Then another season of Hell on Wheels in the fall.
Pretty good lineup if you ask me.

Skylar also SAVED Walt's ass multiple times by forcing him to buy a carwash to embezzle money through, and by making up a story to save face so that Hank never suspected anything other than gambling was going on. Or, if he did suspect it, at least her fucking brilliant story kept him from further investigating Walt.
She has also stood by his side, more or less, ditching Beneke after she realized he's a jackass and doing everything in her power to make sure Walter Jr. doesn't discover the truth. Yes, she can come off as a bitch, but ultimately, when though times call for it, she can step up to the plate and be a complete badass.
LOL, check out this Corn Pops commercial featuring Jesse Pinkman/Aaron Paul:

lol.. I was reading wikipedia and it listen a bunch of stuff he'd appeared in, with a link to that youtube already provided. pretty fucking neat!
Walt is definitely "riding for a fall" Holden style
So many times he could have been free & clear, but he just has to make a big deal of himself, and re implicate himself.
