I'm not talking about the US, like I said I don't think the US would even think about allowing this.

Its just interesting to me they have actually tried this in other countries and it has actually worked. Who would have thought we would actually have prescription Heroin in other countries? Crazy.

How would prescribed heroin have more potential for abuse than street heroin? Not to mention all the risk of copping, dealing with unsavory folk and receiving adulterated product is gone. Another good article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/5043766.stm

if you are trying to get healthy you will got for a suboxone and methadone maintenance program.

the government "safe" heroin was to keep people iff the treats and going to drug users.

how is that the same? people use heroin to get high.
people use methadone and suboxone to get better.

not everyone can take suboxone or methadone due to medical complications ie adverse reactions or other medications they are currently on. and there are plenty of people wanting/trying to get better who cannot take either of those, yet they have been doing street drugs for so long that their brains are changed to a point where they cannot cope w/o something. many people want to get better but cannot due to genetic predisposition and maybe financial issues. a government program would help these people

If there is a problem where you cannot take either suboxone or subutex because of allergies or w/e....then you just plain should not do drugs in general. a program providing "clean heroin" to people would not help at all. i dont understand how people think this type of program would work. ya, people might stop getting dope from the street, but in the end its all the same. your new drug dealer is the bomb, he will never rob you, give you short bags, cut your dope and he is always on time....because its a fucking place ran by the government! creating something like this would create alot of users as well as maybe help some from getting heroin off the street completely. think about it, i would LOVE to score some opiates right now, but because of where i live, there is no drugs of any kind in sight. but if some place gave out free doses of heroin, i would be high as a kite right now.

Maybe you should be doing something more productive than trolling in a thread about drugs. I have been clean for several months and attend meetings, I just find this whole "heroin maintenance" program very interesting.

lol at laiii, you little cunt. i typed from a phone so fuck you and your uber heady keyboard. i stated what i think the only drugs to use are, and that a program providing heroin would not work.

Oxy's suck, then they changed them, now heroin suddenly became the cool thing to do in Alabama. One of the main reasons why I moved away from there. Dopeless Hope Fiends Unite! But I do wish all the best to anyone struggling with addiction, in any form. And I hope someone got a positive message from somewhere in this thread, and maybe with some experience, strength, and hope, everybody can wake up one day not being a slave to stupid drugs. I'm no saint and still get down, but being in a facility taught me that there's an invisible ( or very visible, ha ) line and when I cross that line, I abuse drugs and alcohol way too much. When I don't cross that line, I'm just having fun. This line isn't the same for everybody, and nor should it be. Anyway, I just hope that people realize that addicts/ alcoholics/ both are real people too, and to maybe just put yourself in someone else's shoes before you pass judgement on someone who is probably very similar to you. At least we love the same band and music, right?

Fun fact: I was in rehab with both a guy named Bill W. and a guy named Dr. Bob. You have to learn to laugh again, and I thought this was hilarious everyday for some reason.

This article actually makes me support the whole idea of Heroin maintenance. If it is closely regulated and people can only get it and shoot it up at specific sites that are monitored so there is no overdoses, this could really help people. The study in Germany was done on people who have tried the Methadone route and failed, so they were administered Heroin instead. The group of people who used Heroin were more successful than those on the Methadone program.

Again this is for people who have a huge problem and have tried everything else, such as junkies living out on the street. The program also slowly decreases your dose of Heroin, just like a normal maintenance program would. This could actually work.

I also think getting off Heroin is easier than Subs or Methadone due to the half life. I have never experienced Methadone withdrawl, but i have gone cold turkey off of dope and I would much rather have 2 weeks of hell than 6 months of withdrawals.
