other must do's: go to the two islands off the eastern coast (vieques and culebra) and spend a night or two at each. you can get to them via the ferry from fajardo, a town on the coast. they are completely different in every aspect. culebra is small (8 miles across). i rented a bike and biked across the island. both have amazing beaches spend a day in el yunque national rain forest. hiking, waterfalls, etc. close by is also the town of luqillio, which is famous for their food kiosks. feel free to pm me if you want any other advice |
This post is on point.
Take a surfing lesson, eat mofongo, bailar until the sun rises, go deep sea fishing, go scuba diving. There is a lot to do if you want to, but there is always a beach and a drink around the corner if you prefer to relax. That's the thing with most beach destinations, if you want to see the area in a short span of time you can, but you won't get the full experience. Take a week and enjoy unwinding under the Caribbean sun, don't forget a hat/shades/sunscreen.
During Bob Marley Fest inside a club located in Orlando's City Walk the MC kept yelling Puerto Rico. Ended up in the middle of a circle of Puerto Ricans chanting "go white guy, go white guy, go".
PUERTO RICO!
^Hope this helps
Check out the fort. I went there on a cruise when I was younger. Don't remember anything other than I liked it. If history interests you check it out.
Do touristy stuff like tour the Bacardi factory.
Get drunk on the beach.
???
Profit.
Idk why anyone would say just do four days. If you have the money and time off to do a week I think it would be highly unlikely you don't have an amazing time each day, or that it wouldn't be worth it. Relax and forget about life for a few days.
Your cell phone will still work so I don't expect you to slack on WWF.

I've stayed in San Juan, Isabella, and Rincon. Rincon is really cool for surfing, especially this time of year, but the beaches aren't the greatest. The best beaches would be in the east, or southwest. If you do go somewhere like Rincon, there is a cool expat scene and a really cool waterfall about 45 minutes northeast. pm me if you need deets
--p.s. that bioluminescent bay is in danger due to a potential resort development

Also the bioluminescent bay is one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life!! Totally worth it. Definitely try as many mojitos as possible. Basically went on a quest to find the best in PR when I got there....and while I might have not found it the journey was worth it! I also go Dengue Fever while I was there. Basically hit me when I got back and I was laid up for 2 weeks. Absolutely the worst sickness I've ever had. They don't call it "Bone Crushing Fever" for nothing!!! |
-dengue by day and malaria by night

Huh? As in they're the same thing? Their (the dr's) first guess was actually Malaria, but there were some things that weren't the same...
Either way it was the suck.
dengue mosquitoes bite during the day, one's caring malaria typically bite at night.

SWEET! i always wanted to be sodomized by an italian puerto rican wanna be.
Al’s Backyard on Calle O’Leary in San Juan. go for a burger, stay for the dirt cheap booze
keep 'em coming.
i may go there in a week based on this thread, flights are 133 for me
nice texas. flights aren't bad from here, either. about as much as it is to go to florida so why not take it one step further.
im in miami so its kinda not fair how cheap international flights are, im not from texas and my name is not pete
good to know.
Save your money and just go to Hartford, CT instead. It's pretty much the same thing except without the palm trees.

Awesome, Your in luck.
Thanx for the leg work, you little irish prick, hows your cousins dick taste these days. hahahaa
Hotels: Dont know your price range but heres a little run down of some. Stay in Isla Verde or Condado.
Isla Verde- There is 2 back to back beaches there.
PLaces on the beach
Courtyard by Marriot-Usually decent price, nice hotel, Live Salsa music on the weekends in the lobby. Check that out even if you arent stayin there. The bands are pretty good, and people really know how to dance at that place. Good surfing or body boarding this time of year that beach.
Ritz- overpriced but is on the same beach as marriot and you can use there pool and grab some free oranges as your walkin down the beach.
La PLayita- Small little hotel with open air and oceanview bar/restaurant. Rooms are nice. Good location if the price is right
El San Juan- Prolly real expensive right now. BUt check out at night, Couple restaurants. The lobby bar is busy with live music Thurs-Sat. Club BRava THurs-Sat is open until 5am. YOu have to be dressed up to get in. They play hip hop and reggaeton.
Waterclub-Never been, but on the beach, might be a good price
there is hampton, howard johnson, embassy suites, verdanza hotel about a block from the beach.
Condado
On the Beach
Marriot and La Concha, maybe 1 more. THe conrad is a nice hotel but its a shitty little beach. Same with the Caribe Hilton.
La Concha is pretty nice, pool is sweet. The lobby is usually good Thurs-Sat
NIght Life-Operating hours are pretty sick. There is no closing time. 3 -5 in the morning is like the peak hours.
Isla Verde
EL San JUan Hotel is good to check out for part of a night, but drinks are real expensive. The Club Brava has decent price drinks. BOth places get real busy
Third Base and Alambique are good for drinking during the day. Open Air Beach Front. Medallas are 1.50 i think
Momo and Taiguey are good late night spots. Momo closes at 4 or 5am and Taiguey around 9am
Condado- Busier than Isla Verde. Most bars are within walking distance
Oceano- 3 level Beach front bar. Open till 3am. Good for sundays
Di Zucchero-Good late night spot. Open till about 5:30-6. ALways DJs spinnin there.
Bar Gitano and Barril and next to each other. Good drinks.
Small Bar- Across the street from La Concha hotel has a lot of good beers.
Stop and Go- Right around the corner from small bar. Doesnt close at all. Good beers and is usually packed around 6 am
Old San Juan
New Yurican Cafe is good for some live music
I forget the name but there is a reggae bar thats a goodtime.
Basically just do some bar hoppin there and you'll find some interesting shit goin on somewhere.
Feb 18. Dude from Swedish House Mafia is playin Old San juan here. http://www.ballaja.com/index-eng.html If your here check that out, it should be pretty insane. BUnch of people barhopping and wandering the streets of Old San Juan rolling face.
La PLacita- In Santurce
Thurs-sat
Its a market place during the day and party place at night. Fridays are good because everyone goes there after work. Just a square with a bunch of bars and barhopping. Not as busy since a dude got shot last year, but its still good. My friend owns an Italian Restaurant there that is real good. Vittorino is the name.
Pal Cielo-Good on sunday nights. Hip Hop music. Small place but a good time
Food
Isla Verde
Metropol-get the stuffed cornish hen and black bean soup, tell them to make it juicy, so the chicken isnt too dry
On the beach there is a couple food carts that have good shit
El Churry- its a truck that sells sandwiches, was on man vs food, they r good
Pinones is a little town at the end of isla verde. Cool beaches there and food stands on the side of the road. Goto "El Borricua" has 2 puerto rican flags. Usually people there waiting. Get alcapurrias, pinonos, baccalao, tacos. 2 shots and bar will cost you $5
Condado
Buda Tai-asian cuisine owned by the PR Iron Chef, he also owns Bar Gatano
old San Juan
Parrot club- great food, cool setting
Raices-Puerto Rican food and real good
Traveling- Get a car they are cheap and you can do a ton more shit without having to wait for a bus or paying out the ass with taxis. People are retarded drivers though. Every man for himself.
Old San juan during the day for shopping/barhopping. Check out the San Cristobal castle. El Moro is the same but smaller. A cool Cathedral and square.
SNorkling trips are $80-$100. They pick you up where ever you are. Drive you to Fajardo(about 40 minutes) sail out to a private island in a catamaran. Has a bar. Make you lunch, then they bring you over a reef. Save the bread from lunch, it attracts fish. All day thing
Rainforest is for hiking and beers, cool waterfalls
Culebra- YOu have to go there. Go during the week and you have the island to yourself. Great snorkeling.
Vieques is cool too, but Culebra is a lot smaller and better. You can travel on a golf cart and go down little paths without worrying about anything. Vieques get sketchy in some spots
Rincon, Aguadilla, and Isa Bella are in the west and have great beaches. Lots of americans because of the surfing. Cabo Rojo is in the SW, real nice beaches.
DO NOT DO THE BACARDI TOUR- Wast of 2 hours. Basically 4 rooms and they force you to the gift shop. Bacardi blows anyways. Drink Don Q here. Medalla is the local beer, it only comes in light. Ron Barrilito is also another great rum, get the 3 star.
