Bostankles, you really need to calm the hell down. You get way too worked up over all of this stuff and are bringing Obama into a thread about Headcount. Dude, calling for sterilization??? Take a deep breath and walk around outside in the sun, you seem to need it

There should be a questionnaire at the voting booth that you fill out and it tells you who to vote for. Seriously...stupid people get to pick out as many issues as they want to select, then select their personal stance and the machine spits out issue by issue which candidate best represents their ideals. Then all they have to do is push the picture of the candidate. Easy as pie.

I mean, I'm not bitching about the media being biased-- I'm bitching about them just creating the story they want to make.

How many people do you think they interviewed? How many did they show? If you get 100 people and 97 of them know there are 50 states... but 3 retards don't... they show the story they want to show.

It's a business. Same as putting skinny models in your clothes, hot dudes in your cologne ads, and Kevin Federline in a fast food commercial. They're selling a product. And this time the product was something like: "Hey, everyone is encouraging people to vote, that's been done. Let's make a story about how people SHOULDN'T vote! Yeah, people will watch that. We'll make money! (queue evil laughter...)"

Ok, at first I was tempted to be pissed off when I saw this, but after a little deep breathing I've come to the conclusion that it is absolutely important to challenge ALL OF OUR (not just camp goers... I'm talking each US citizen's) knowledge. While those 20/20 people have a decent point, they are COMPLETELY lacking in any counter-argumentative details, besides the fact that it is absolutely impossible to take an accurately representative splice of the nation's youth (or population for that matter) by going to ONE day of camp bisco and showing people in DC some fucking pictures wrapped up into a 4 minute news reel.

I think the main counter argument would be that, honestly, even if you do not know how many senators there are, how many seats in congress, what a historical court case is by name, THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE DIRECTIONS THAT THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES WANT TO TAKE OUR COUNTRY.

In all honesty, do you need to understand an old abortion case to know whether you are pro-choice or pro-life? Do you need to know the exact number of US senators to have an opinion on what the US president should be planning to do with our hard-earned tax dollars? If you do not recognize a picture of Biden, does that mean you should be restricted to a demi-citizen, unable to speak your mind about how to ameliorate our oil situation?

On that same note, should you, as a US citizen, know how many states we have?! Um... YES. I mean it really boils down to the fact that we need to make sure we are educated, and I am not, in any way, trying to debase the importance of education and knowing what is going on in the world (especially that which exists in our own boundaries). BUT... I would LOVE for someone to find solidified proof that those that are highly educated in history and government and could answer those few 20/20 questions perfectly ARE ALWAYS GOING TO BE ABLE TO DECIDE WHAT IS RIGHT AND WRONG FOR THIS COUNTRY. Answering those questions is not equivalent to understanding or caring about the conditions of all US citizens.

Shapis, I think you just found your million dollar idea! That would be incredible and solve the entire issue, even the 2 party issue

yes i think that you need to know these answers to have a valid opinion on anything related to government. the former question is the very basis on which the whole discussion of abortion rights is based and the latter is the foundation of our government and has everything to do with a spending bill being written and passed into law...minus 10 points to you for not thinking these are important bits of knowledge..

No, I DO think they are important to know and understand! Don't get me wrong... I think that everyone should be far more educated about our own government and past/present/future issues!

However, some people have a really hard time with school, or even go to one of the thousands of drastically under-funded schools our government refuses to help out due to "low test scores," or say, couldn't go to college, or whatever. I am merely trying to argue that you cannot tell these people, who are real US citizens, living real lives, affected by all political decisions being made, don't have the right to an opinion on what is going on.

"Uneducated" does not always equal stupid, clueless, or ignorant.

PS- Education is everything to me, and I am a firm believer in it and want to be a teacher myself. I just refuse to ignore the fact that many incredibly intelligent and profound individuals with great ideas and a realistic view on life have not always thrived off of the educational institution.

That 'pick my candidate' idea wouldn't even be that hard to build. And you could go really in depth with some collective intelligence like amazon & netflix do for recommendations. 'People like you voted for...'

Yeah, I got fucked. I'm the second incorrect answer to rowe vs. wade or whatever. I mean let's get serious. I'm a graduating college student who answered all of the question correctly except that one and what state is John McCain from. That shit was slandered as fuck. It was kinda funny seein myself on that shit though. The funnier part is that right after I watched it I asked the like ten people sitting around me if they new what that case was and only one person knew it. Fuck the editor of that clip.

I mean Roe v. Wade was actually about a Constitutionally guaranteed right to privacy, but, whatever. The abortion debate is related, but you don't necessarily have to understand the decision of that case to have an opinion about it, I don't think.

But, who is responsible for making sure the youth know these facts?

I mean, ideally, each person should be responsible for their own knowledge once they hit a certain age...

However, if your parents or your teachers (ie NOT THE YOUTH) never pushed these issues as being important in your life... then whose fault is it? I mean it's soooo easy to sit around and bitch about younger generations (I, too, have been guilty of bashing the generations underneath myself, and I am only 24!) but in the end, the older generations need to take at least some of the responsibility for the ways that the country's youth acts. Leading by example, expecting the youth to know certain things, and teaching them the importance of these things is CRUCIAL.

Thanks for that link Hayduke...I think for the general public the first part needs to be dumbed down a little, but the two sections is exactly what should be available in voter booths.

My results:
1. McKinney
2. Nadar
3. Obama

and yeah, chemicalwar, i agree this report is laughable, of course they skewed it to what they already were trying to prove. however, you should know at least the effect that roe v. wade has had on the abortion discussion, it's been in the news quite frequently most of the elections since it's been passed.

to be fair, spunions at camp aren't the only ones who are morons, i asked a couple of people i worked with a year or two ago some of the questions that are on the immigrant exam to become a citizen, and they couldn't even answer those, questions like, what country is borders the u.s. to the south?

i got the following two answers; puerto rico and florida.

Nadar I forget...

Interesting, and it makes me feel good about my vote. I would love to vote independent if this wasn't such a crucial time.
